Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
There are so many times we feel consumed by life. We carry the weight and responsibility of caring for our children…or our parents…our jobs…our ministries…and on it goes. Throw in the situation in the country and concerns for the economy—it’s understandable we might feel overwhelmed!
Yet this verse reminds us, “because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed.”
During a recent especially difficult time, God reminded me that no matter how I felt, whatever I was facing, it would not consume me. That was good news to my weary mind. I remembered Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 4: “We are hedged in (pressed) on every side [troubled and oppressed in every way], but not cramped or crushed; we suffer embarrassments and are perplexed and unable to find a way out, but not driven to despair; We are pursued (persecuted and hard driven), but not deserted [to stand alone]; we are struck down to the ground, but never struck out and destroyed.”
Let God’s promise encourage you today. Even if it feels as if you aren’t going to make it. When pain or disappointment intensifies, it won’t crush or consume you. When bad news seems to surround you and your future seems uncertain, his compassion won’t fail you. Nothing in this life can destroy your relationship with God, his promises, your peace, your joy, or your salvation. His mercies (and his compassionate, passionate love for you!) fails not.
